Dear School Leaders,

Warm greetings from Green Mentors.

At a time when sustainability is becoming central to education systems worldwide, we invite you to pause and reflect:

What was happening in education when your school began its greening journey?

Green Mentors is launching a global initiative to document and amplify the journeys of early adopters of greening education in K–12 schools—those who led change when sustainability was not yet institutionalized.

Many of these pioneering efforts began in contexts where:

· Climate literacy was limited

· Sustainability frameworks were absent

· Ecological responsibility was not embedded in school systems

Yet, through vision, leadership, and commitment, your school may have taken the first steps toward what is now a global movement for climate-conscious learning and sustainable education.

We Invite You to Share Your Story

We encourage your school to reflect on:

· What was the institutional context when you began?

· Were there teachers or a principal who inspired this journey?

· What challenges or barriers did you face?

· How did awareness of climate change, biodiversity loss, or resource constraints influence your efforts?

· What early actions—however small—created lasting change?

Why Your Story Matters

By sharing your journey, your school will:

· Contribute to a global knowledge repository on greening education.

· Inspire educators and institutions worldwide.

· Strengthen collaboration toward sustainable and responsible education systems.

Global Recognition Opportunity

Selected stories will be featured at the 10th NYC Green School Conference New York | 24 September 2026, during Climate Week NYC and the United Nations General Assembly

Additionally:

· Schools with impactful journeys will be encouraged to participate in the Green School Accreditation Program, aligned with the UNESCO Green School Quality Standards

· Accredited schools will be awarded the GEP Green School Badge on World Environment Day – 5 June 2026

Call to Action

We would be honored to include your school’s journey in this global initiative.

Our team will support you through the next steps.
